Since the new Magnum P.I. reboot is set to premiere on September 24, 2018, I thought it timely to use this blog to take a closer look at the original series. Based on the trailer that has recently been released, the new series is already getting some mixed reviews from fans of the original show. And a critique I read recently highlights some of the aspects of the original show that made it so great, but that simply cannot be replicated in the reboot.
I first started watching Magnum, P.I. approximately four years ago, and I must admit one of the only reasons I started watching the show was because of that one cross-over episode it had with Murder, She Wrote. After taking a hiatus from watching it, I finally bought the whole series boxed set for Christmas and zoomed through 3 seasons in 6 months. (That’s an average of three episodes per week, for anyone who’s counting.)
I recently got the idea to start this blog, and fittingly it happened to be just after I watched the Murder, She Wrote crossover episode about half-way through season 7. As a result, my episodic review of Magnum, P.I. will start with the episode that follows that one: Season 7 Episode 10 “Kapu”.
Every week I will deliver a recap of each subsequent episode, noting the most awesome, the most funny, and the most wtf moments.
