Who is “Murder, She Watched”?
My name is Joanna and I’m the person behind murdershewatched.com.
I’ve always considered myself a bit of a mystery buff. My love-affair with mysteries started when I was just 9 years old. I devoured Nancy Drew mysteries, and then moved on to Agatha Christie novels when I started highschool. I also grew up watching a lot of TV — and by some measures I would say I was addicted.
I started this blog in August 2018, at which time I was trying to write the first draft of my PhD dissertation. (It’s in the field of linguistics in case you’re curious.) It was a difficult time for me: I struggled with getting the words out and I took frequent breaks to watch Murder, She Wrote to make myself feel better. Jessica Fletcher was my hero — she showed me it was never too late to follow your passions!
Eventually, I realized that what I needed was to turn what I was already doing in my spare time into a more productive hobby. I naturally gravitated towards blogging because I had always loved writing. A nice side effect of blogging was that it gave me the practice I needed to write down my thoughts without stressing too much about whether it was perfect — which in turn helped me get over my academic writer’s block and get my first draft written.
After my first year of blogging, I finished my PhD and became even more committed to continuing building this website, thanks to the lovely community of Murder, She Wrote fans and fans of other detective shows that I’ve met online.
Over the years, I’ve expanded this website and expanded my online presence. You can now find me spreading my love of Murder, She Wrote and detective TV shows on the following platforms:
