As part of my mission to compile a TV Detective Database listing all mystery/detective/crime shows ever made, this post presents a list of English-language mystery shows that premiered in the year 2023.
In my previous posts, I used to separate out shows that were produced in the UK versus shows that were produced in the US. However, with the predominance of streaming over traditional broadcast media, I felt that this distinction was no longer necessary as most shows are released globally at the same time.
Eliminating the distinction between US versus UK productions also allowed me to broaden my database to include shows produced in other English-speaking countries. So for the first time ever on this website, you will see discussion of shows produced in Australia or New Zealand.
As usual, I use the term “detective show” rather loosely and include anything that can be classified as a mystery/thriller/crime drama. However, I exclude true crime documentaries and reality shows, as I focus on scripted stories. Additionally, I exclude shows that can predominantly be considered science fiction or horror.
I hope that you find the list below helpful — perhaps in helping you discover something that came out in last year that you haven’t yet seen.
The shows are listed in alphabetical order by title, and the table includes information about the country or origin as well as its original distributor (to give you an idea of which broadcast channel or streaming service you may be able to watch it on).
