We’re back in Cabot Cove for this episode and we quickly learn that an illegal gambling casino that has opened up in the upstairs banquet room of a local restaurant. Sheriff Metzger is having quite the time organizing a sting operation as it seems that the casino owners are getting tipped off. On top of it all, he also almost gets shot and he’s getting threatening letters.
Meanwhile, Jessica learns her Cabot Cove accountant is up to something shady as her bills are not getting paid and the accountant is not returning her calls.

- Louis Herthum as Deputy Andy Broom.
- Wings Hauser as Samuel “Sam” Bennett, local CPA and Jessica’s accountant. This is Hauser’s third of four appearances on MSW; he previously appeared in “Night Fears“.
- Penelope Windust as Laura Bennett, Sam Bennett’s wife.
- William Windom as Dr. Seth Hazlitt.
- Richard Beymer as Lou Keramides, the new owner of “The Inn” restaurant who is running an illegal casino. This is Beymer’s fifth of six total appearances on MSW; he previously appeared in “The Days Dwindle Down“, “The Way to Dusty Death“, “The List of Yuri Lermentov“, and “The Sound of Murder“.
- Jason Kane as a Waiter at “The Inn” restaurant.
- James Willett as a Croupier at the illegal casino.
- David Stenstrom as a Craps Player (playing next to Sam Bennett). A recurring actor on the show, this is Stenstrom’s fourth and final appearance on MSW; he previously appeared in “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue“, “The Fixer-Upper“, and “Where Have You Gone, Billy Boy?“.
- Matthew Flint as Dep. Ethan Loomis, Mort’s new deputy and the boyfriend of Candace Bennett.
- Liz Vassey as Candace Bennett, the daughter of Sam and Laura Bennett. This is Vassey’s first of two appearances on MSW.
- Carrie Snodgress as Irene Macinoy, editor of the Cabot Cove Gazette. This is Snodgress’s second and final appearance on MSW.
- Adam Trese as Chad Macinoy, Irene Macinoy’s son who is back from an unsuccessful stint in Philadelphia. He is also an ex boyfriend of Candace Bennett.
- Rick Scarry as the Minister performing the funeral.
- An uncredited actor as Wilbur Dobbs, a man that Seth waves hello to when he sees him driving down the road after the funeral.
- Trent Dolan as Jason David, a man that Jessica follows into the casino room. This is Dolan’s second and final appearance on MSW; he previously appeared in “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue“.
Final thoughts and other trivia:
This is an interesting addition to the Cabot Cove canon that did make me wonder about a couple of points:
- The restaurant that Jessica and Seth eat at is referred to as “The Inn”, which makes me wonder if it is meant to be the same place as The Joshua Peabody Inn featured in Season 2.
- It appears that Cabot Cove has quite a significant Greek community, which we see not only here in the character of Lou Keramides, but which we’ve also seen in Season 6 “The Szechuan Dragon“.
- And finally, as we meet the editor of the Cabot Cove Gazette here, this makes me again wonder whatever happened to Ben Devlin who ran the Cabot Cove Gazette is Season 7.
